Conjured Activism

conquering the world one oxymoron at a time

August 6, 2003

Sometimes you just feel useful. Othertimes you don’t. I felt useful today, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I was actually useful. My case has a big presentation at the client tomorrow, and I volunteered to help put together some slides, make some random phone calls. Have you ever called the McDonald’s corporate headquarters? They’re in Chicago. They also have regional offices in Atlanta, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Denver, but Phoenix only has a satellite office. Oh the things you learn in a day’s work. I think that I am on the hit-list of each of the receptionists in all of those offices, especially the one at the corporate headquarters. They hate me so much, I just know it. But Bain likes me now because I gathered them information. And frankly, since Bain’s the one paying me, I really couldn’t care less what McDonald’s corporate headquarters thinks of me. Two more days until I find out my full-time offer decision.

I can’t decide whether or not I’m nervous about my final presentation, slotted for 9AM Friday morning. *sigh* I really don’t want to screw it up.

I went and hung out with Valter last night. We, ironically given all those calls I made today, went to McDonald’s. We also watched Training Day. That is a violent movie. Made me think of that Alan Jackson song about September 11. “Did you turn off that violent movie you were watching, and turn on I Love Lucy reruns” Is America’s problem really the media? Those Hong Kong movies are much more violent than any American ones that I’ve seen, and having grown up watching those, I don’t think I’m seriously messed up. Had an interesting conversation with him afterwards too, while he continually pumped up a basketball with one of those infusion pumps, made popular by not-so-hot-shot Mr. Kobe Bryant himself.
